{"id":1306,"date":"2015-06-07T16:52:23","date_gmt":"2015-06-07T11:22:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.aadisht.net\/blog\/?p=1306"},"modified":"2015-06-07T16:52:23","modified_gmt":"2015-06-07T11:22:23","slug":"ideas-events-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.aadisht.net\/blog\/2015\/06\/07\/ideas-events-people\/","title":{"rendered":"Ideas, Events, People"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>Great minds discuss ideas, average\u00a0minds discuss events, and lesser minds discuss people.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This was one of those homilies from childhood that I encountered again a while ago somewhere on the internet, and I realised that as with most homilies, it doesn&#8217;t really stand up to application in the real world.<\/p>\n<p>Because if the ideas you are discussing are\u00a0on the lines of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Vaccination causes autism<\/li>\n<li>Genetically Modified foodstuffs cause cancer<\/li>\n<li>Taj Mahal is actually a Siva temple called Tejo Mahalaya<\/li>\n<li>Muslim men are\u00a0seducing Hindu women into marriage for nefarious purposes<sup>1<\/sup><\/li>\n<li>Jan Lok Pal will solve all corruption everywhere in India<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>then honestly, you and society at large are probably better off talking about the people on last night&#8217;s episode of Bigg Boss. In fact we should celebrate and praise Bigg Boss as a sort of\u00a0storm water drain that takes conspiracists away from the high streets of policy discourse.<\/p>\n<p><sup>1<\/sup>: The worst thing about this particular conspiracy theory is that it never gives an\u00a0explanation of what Muslim men get out of this.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Great minds discuss ideas, average\u00a0minds discuss events, and lesser minds discuss people.
