Does anybody actually use EDGE on Airtel? If so,
- what do you actually do with it?
- what kind of speed do you get?
- how do you activate it?
Your answers will help me form a decision about whether I should break the habit of four years and buy a high-end phone.
(Specifically, is it feasible to use it to Twitter and blog on WordPress? You know the sort of posts I write, so keep that in mind, please.)
I did used Edge on Airtel when i was in Blr a yr back. Activating is simple, you have to send a SMS or something to some number (i was on prepaid). Otherwise call up customer care and they should know. Speed was decent enough for web stuff. I used to fotoblog from my K790i. And wait before you buy your phone ! Official unlocked iPhones are being launched in France in Nov end 🙂
Don’t have so much enthu for iPhone da. I’m damn suspicious of touchscreens. Besides I just found out that Nokia Lifeblog now integrates directly with WordPress, which is why I asked now. So probably N-series or E-Series. And if expandable memory on Nokias lets me store unlimited SMSs, even better.
Oh, and cash crunch situation are there. So probably not buying whatever I buy until at least the end of the year anyway.
Two things – Google Maps, and Gmail. Both work 10 times better on a phone with Edge than one without. In fact, Gmail doesn’t seem to be working on many phones without Edge. Dunno why this is. I have a Nokia 7610, which is GPRS enabled. I never get Gmail. My dad has 6300, which EDGE enabled, and on his phone, accessing the Net is breeze – note we’re on Vodafone, so I don’t know if that has something to do with it.
Well. The bits arrive by registered post, delivered by a combination of trains, fish carts and postmen cycles. So yes, if you are the type that can hit the submit button and generally do tapas and get a few boons granted by Brahma and all that while the page loads, I think you will be happy with Airtel.
Faster in Delhi though. Chennai totally vaccuum cleans.
